Todd Blanche has been confirmed as the 88th Attorney General of the United States, following a Senate vote that cleared the way for him to formally take charge of the Department of Justice.
Following his confirmation, Todd Blanche said he was “deeply honored” by President Donald Trump’s confidence in selecting him to lead the Justice Department. He also expressed gratitude to senators and the department’s career public servants for their service to the country.
BLANCHE THANKS PRESIDENT TRUMP
In his statement following the confirmation, Todd Blanche acknowledged the trust placed in him by President Trump, saying he was honoured to have been chosen to lead one of the most powerful law-enforcement institutions in the United States.
Blanche’s appointment gives him responsibility for overseeing the Justice Department, including its federal law-enforcement agencies, U.S. attorneys’ offices and major criminal and civil litigation on behalf of the federal government.
SENATE CONFIRMS BLANCHE AS ATTORNEY GENERAL
Blanche’s confirmation followed a closely watched Senate process in which lawmakers examined his legal background, experience and views on the Justice Department’s role.
His confirmation also comes after he served as acting attorney general, giving him experience inside the department before receiving permanent Senate approval.
The vote marks an important step in the Trump administration’s effort to establish its leadership team at the Justice Department.

In thanking Justice Department employees, Todd Blanche recognised the contribution of career public servants who work across the department. His comments indicated an intention to work with the department’s workforce as he begins his tenure as attorney general.
The Justice Department employs thousands of lawyers, investigators and other professionals responsible for enforcing federal laws and handling cases involving national security, civil rights, organised crime, terrorism, public corruption and other areas.

As attorney general, Todd Blanche will serve as the nation’s chief federal law-enforcement officer and principal legal adviser to the President. His responsibilities will include setting Justice Department priorities and overseeing the implementation of federal criminal-justice policies.
His tenure is expected to attract significant attention because of the political and legal issues confronting the Trump administration, including federal investigations, immigration enforcement, national security and disputes over the independence of federal law enforcement.
