Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway gave fans another reason to keep their eyes on the Verity promotional tour after sharing a playful moment at the film’s New York City premiere. The actresses, who star together in the psychological thriller, appeared relaxed and cheerful on the red carpet, proving that even a movie built around secrets and suspense can produce some seriously friendly moments.
Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway Keep the Friendship Plot Bumpin’ Along
The premiere arrived just days before Verity heads into theaters, with Johnson playing struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh and Hathaway portraying the mysterious author Verity Crawford. The film, directed by Michael Showalter, is adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling 2018 novel and also stars Josh Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford.
But while their characters are surrounded by psychological tension, Johnson and Hathaway appeared to be operating under a completely different script at the premiere: smile, laugh, pose and make the friendship look suspiciously effortless. In other words, the biggest mystery in the room may not have been what happened inside the Crawford household—it may have been how the two stars managed to look this relaxed while promoting such a dark story.

Hathaway also made headlines with her glamorous red-carpet appearance, wearing a black lace mermaid gown that highlighted her pregnancy. She is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman, adding another layer of public interest to an already heavily photographed premiere.
Meanwhile, Hathaway has praised Johnson’s performance in the movie, including a particularly memorable scream from a scene that was developed collaboratively during production. With the film scheduled for release on October 2, the premiere has now shifted the spotlight from the novel’s mysteries to the chemistry between its leading stars—and social media may have plenty more theories ready to investigate.
