Ben Affleck may have spent decades playing tough Hollywood characters, but apparently none of those roles prepared him for his most difficult critics — his own children.
The Oscar-winning actor recently revealed that his three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner have started turning his romantic history into comedy whenever he tries to give them relationship advice. And judging from one particularly brutal comment from his 17-year-old daughter, Affleck may want to think twice before starting another relationship lecture at the dinner table.

During his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Affleck explained that his children have become increasingly comfortable reminding him that his own romantic history is not exactly a spotless textbook on relationships.
The actor recalled browsing in a bookstore with one of his children when they came across a book titled I’m Sorry for Everything. His child immediately looked at him and joked that the title could be the name of his autobiography. Affleck apparently had no choice but to accept the hit and keep walking.
But the bookstore incident was apparently only one chapter in the family roast. Affleck said that whenever he tries to offer advice about relationships, his children now exchange knowing looks, leaving him aware that he has somehow become the main character in their private comedy show.
The situation became even more painful when Affleck tried discussing someone else’s relationship at the dinner table. His 17-year-old daughter, Seraphina, reportedly responded with a brutally simple question: “Oh, like you’re the expert on relationships?” At that point, the conversation was basically over before Dad could even finish his sentence.
Hollywood Romance History Comes Back to Haunt Him
Affleck’s children have certainly had plenty of material. The actor was married to Jennifer Garner for 10 years, and the former couple share three children: Violet, Seraphina and Samuel. Their divorce was finalized in 2018 after they announced their separation in 2015.
Affleck later rekindled his romance with Jennifer Lopez, with the pair marrying in 2022 before their divorce was finalized in February 2025. So when the actor walks into the kitchen ready to deliver relationship wisdom, his children apparently have enough historical records to request a supporting presentation first.
The actor joked that he never expected not to be the “cool dad,” but his children’s reactions appear to have delivered a different reality check. Instead of automatically accepting Dad’s wisdom, they seem perfectly willing to remind him that life experience does not necessarily come with an expert certificate.
Still, the teasing appears to be part of a broader family dynamic rather than a sign of hostility. Affleck and Garner continue to co-parent their children, and Garner has previously spoken positively about Affleck’s role as their father.
The Kids Have Officially Taken Over the Roast
For Affleck, the funniest part may be that he is now experiencing the same thing many parents eventually discover: children have an impressive ability to remember every embarrassing detail while conveniently forgetting all the advice they were given.
The actor can discuss Hollywood, filmmaking and relationships all he wants, but the moment his children hear him sounding too confident about romance, someone apparently has a comeback ready.
And perhaps that is the real family lesson here. Parents may spend years telling their children what not to do, only to discover that their children have been quietly keeping receipts.
For now, Affleck seems willing to laugh along with the jokes. After all, when your own children are turning your dating history into punchlines, there is probably only one sensible response — laugh first before they get another joke in.
