Alison Hammond gave viewers of This Morning a live-TV moment nobody had planned for when she suddenly left the set during Friday’s broadcast, leaving co-host Dermot O’Leary to continue the programme alone.
The 51-year-old presenter later reassured worried fans from a hospital bed, explaining that she had experienced a heart palpitation and was getting checked by doctors. She said she was “fine” but hoped the episode was simply a panic attack.
Alison Hammond Suddenly Leaves the Studio
The broadcast began normally with Hammond and O’Leary presenting together, but things changed during a segment involving resident vet Dr Scott Miller. Hammond appeared to become unwell and left the set, with O’Leary helping her away from the cameras.
After an advert break, O’Leary told viewers that Alison was feeling “a little unwell” and had to “duck out.” He initially suggested she might return, but later confirmed that he would host the rest of the programme alone.

Hours later, Hammond took to Instagram from hospital to calm the concern surrounding her sudden departure. She said she was having her “old ticker checked out” after experiencing a palpitation and thanked fans for their messages.
Hammond also apologized for leaving the show so abruptly, explaining that she would not normally walk away from a live programme. She said doctors were checking her and that she hoped everything would be fine.

With Hammond unavailable, O’Leary suddenly found himself running the entire programme solo. The presenter continued with the scheduled interviews and segments while viewers waited for further news about his co-host.
For a programme famous for unpredictable live-TV moments, this was certainly one way to remind everybody that sometimes the biggest plot twist is not written in the running order.
Thankfully, Hammond’s later message brought some relief to fans, although she remains under medical evaluation. For now, viewers will be hoping the much-loved presenter gets the all-clear and returns to television when she is ready.
