In a candid new interview, the singer opened up about stepping away from music to heal from painful personal experiences, rediscovering her confidence and preparing to release her forthcoming album, The Girl of Your Dreams. Her message is clear: the woman who once turned heartbreak into “Moral of the Story” has returned with fewer apologies and considerably more emotional armor.
Ashe Steps Away From the Spotlight to Heal
Ashe, whose real name is Ashlyn Rae Willson, stepped back from music in 2022 after a period marked by burnout, the death of her brother and the aftermath of a difficult marriage. The album title itself carries a playful sting. Ashe describes “the girl of your dreams” as a projection of what other people expect a woman to be, arguing that women can sometimes become whatever others want them to become. Her new mission is to shed that projection and discover who she would be without everyone else writing the character description. Ashe’s latest single, “Stop the Wedding!”, also revisits the territory that made “Moral of the Story” so powerful. The song draws on the contrast between her first marriage and her happier marriage to fellow musician John Clark Canada, whom she married in 2025.
