Megan Thee Stallion is giving fans a deeper look into her breakup with NBA star Klay Thompson, revealing that the relationship left her feeling like she was slowly losing touch with herself. The Grammy-winning rapper described the end of their roughly year-long romance as “very rough” while reflecting on what she learned from the experience.
Megan and Thompson were first linked in 2025 before their relationship ended in April 2026. At the time, Megan said trust, fidelity and respect were non-negotiable for her after accusing Thompson of infidelity. In her latest interview, she explained that the bigger issue was also how much she had been trying to fit herself into another person’s life.
Megan Says She Was Trying To Fit Into Someone Else’s Life
Speaking to InStyle, Megan admitted that she spent part of the relationship trying to make things work even when they did not feel right. She said she was constantly trying to make “pieces fit that didn’t belong” and attempting to fit herself into someone else’s life.
“I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again,” Mega said, explaining that constantly feeling uncomfortable or on edge helped her realize the relationship was not where she was meant to be.
The rapper also made it clear that she does not want to sacrifice her identity for a relationship. Megan emphasized that she loves her career, her music and interacting with her fans, and that any future partner will have to understand that she is her own person and her own boss.
Megan Sets New Rules for Love
Megan said the experience has helped her become clearer about what she will and will not tolerate in a future relationship. She wants a partnership where both people are equals rather than one where she feels pressured to take a back seat.
The rapper also reflected on the emotional impact of being cheated on, stressing that another person’s decision to cheat should not make the victim question their attractiveness, worth or value. She said she has learned that someone failing to recognize her value does not reduce it.
Since the breakup, Megan says she has been rediscovering herself and enjoying her independence. Rather than viewing being single as a setback, she described feeling happier and more comfortable being herself again.
For Mega Thee Stallion, the breakup appears to have become less about losing a relationship and more about finding herself again. As she moves forward with her music, career and personal life, fans will be watching to see how this new chapter shapes the rapper’s next era.
