Nearly two months after she and husband Maksim Chmerkovskiy relocated from Los Angeles to Boca Raton with their three sons, the former Dancing With the Stars professional has shared an enthusiastic update on their new lifestyle. Murgatroyd says the family is “loving every second” of life in Florida and believes the relocation is exactly what they need at this stage.
The update is notable because leaving California was not easy for the couple. They documented an emotional departure in June, with Murgatroyd acknowledging the tears, difficult goodbyes and uncertainty that accompanied the decision. Now, the early signs suggest that the family’s concerns about starting over have been replaced by excitement about what their new surroundings offer.
FLORIDA MOVE Gives the Family a Different Kind of Childhood
Murgatroyd says one of the biggest attractions of Boca Raton is the combination of convenience and family-friendly amenities. She highlighted the area’s proximity to Miami, nearby beaches, schools and sports opportunities for the boys. She also said that most of the places the family needs are only a short drive away, something she particularly appreciates while raising three young children.
Florida Move has also changed the family’s neighborhood experience. Murgatroyd said her sons have already been invited to playdates, while children in the community have knocked on their door to ask them to come outside and ride bikes. She explained that she wanted her eldest son, Shai, to have the kind of childhood she remembers having herself, and seeing that happen has been particularly meaningful to her.
From Tearful Goodbye to a New Family Routine
The couple’s relocation involved more than simply changing addresses. Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy had lived in Los Angeles for around two decades, and their departure was emotional enough that they documented themselves becoming tearful as they left. Murgatroyd previously described the move as uncomfortable but ultimately said it was the best decision for their family.
The family has also maintained a practical connection to California. Their former Valley Village property, a roughly 4,300-square-foot home, was reportedly placed on the rental market for $18,000 per month rather than immediately sold. That means their California chapter has not necessarily disappeared completely, even as their primary family life shifts to Florida.
Florida Move now appears to be settling into a genuine new chapter rather than a temporary experiment. Murgatroyd has acknowledged that California will always be a home to the family after so many years, but her latest comments suggest that Boca Raton is currently providing the environment she and Chmerkovskiy wanted for their children. With the boys settling into school, friendships and activities, the couple appear increasingly comfortable with the decision that initially brought so many tears.
