Farrah Abraham Faces Long Recovery After Jaw Surgery Leaves Her Mouth Wired Shut

Farrah Abraham is facing a lengthy and painful recovery after undergoing double-disc jaw surgery that has left her mouth wired shut and temporarily unable to speak. The 35-year-old 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom alum recently underwent the procedure to address ongoing jaw problems, and her manager, Chrissy Johnston, says Abraham now has months of recovery ahead.

Farrah Abraham Begins Difficult Recovery After Major Jaw Procedure

Farrah Abraham had her stitches removed on September 30, which her manager described as a small but welcome milestone. However, the reality-TV personality still faces a demanding recovery. Her jaw is expected to remain wired shut for about two months, meaning she cannot speak normally and must consume a strict liquid diet through a straw.

Johnston said Abraham has already experienced significant weight loss and is dealing with severe pain and facial swelling. The physical limitations have also affected her mood, as she adjusts to being unable to open her mouth, eat solid food or communicate normally.

Abraham has nevertheless continued giving fans glimpses of her recovery. She appeared during her daughter Sophia’s TikTok livestream and communicated through written messages because she could not speak. She later described herself as feeling like “Frankenstein” and expressed hope that the swelling would improve within approximately three months.

Farrah Abraham Says Medical Problems Led to the Surgery

Farrah Abraham has said the latest procedure was necessary to address ongoing jaw problems rather than being performed simply for cosmetic purposes. Earlier this year, she discussed having difficulty using her jaw and opening her mouth normally, describing the problem as something that had increasingly affected basic activities such as eating.

Current reports also say Abraham has experienced hearing loss in her right ear following the procedure. Her manager expressed hope that her hearing will return as she continues to heal. The combination of swelling, pain, restricted eating, limited speech and the hearing issue has made the recovery particularly demanding.

Abraham has connected her long-running jaw problems to trauma she says followed a 2021 alleged sexual assault. That allegation is disputed: Abraham has accused former Windsor, California, mayor Dominic Foppoli, who has denied wrongdoing and said the encounter was consensual. Reports concerning the connection between the alleged incident and her medical condition therefore reflect Abraham’s account and statements from her representatives, rather than an established legal finding.

The surgery also arrives after years in which Abraham has been publicly open about cosmetic procedures and their complications. She previously underwent procedures including breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, a chin implant and other cosmetic treatments, and has discussed complications from a previous lip procedure that led to hospitalization and later an appearance on Botched.

For Farrah Abraham, however, the current chapter is centered less on her past cosmetic history and more on getting through an intense medical recovery. With her jaw wired shut for weeks, a liquid-only diet and continued pain and swelling, she faces a slow return to normal life. Her manager says Abraham is taking things one day at a time and trying to remain positive as she works through what remains a long road ahead.
