A newly circulated video is putting Donald Trump back at the center of an old and unresolved $10 million Egypt money mystery, but the footage itself does not establish that Trump received the cash. The underlying allegation dates to a secret U.S. investigation that examined whether Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi had sought to provide $10 million to support Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Investigators later uncovered a remarkable $9,998,000 cash withdrawal from an Egyptian bank account in January 2017, shortly before Trump took office.
Donald Trump, Egypt and the $10 Million Question
The investigation reportedly began after U.S. intelligence indicated that Sisi may have sought to send Trump $10 million. Investigators subsequently found that nearly the exact amount — $9,998,000 — had been withdrawn in cash from a Cairo branch of the National Bank of Egypt five days before Trump’s inauguration. According to reporting on the investigation, the money was reportedly placed into bags and carried away, creating a financial mystery worthy of a political thriller.
The timing made the Donald Trump connection particularly striking. In October 2016, Trump had put approximately $10 million of his own money into his struggling presidential campaign, and investigators examined whether the Egyptian cash could somehow have been connected to that contribution. They scrutinised Trump’s financial records and other transactions, but the bank records reviewed by investigators did not provide evidence that Trump had received money from Egypt. The investigation was eventually closed without charges.
The Video Raises Questions, But Not Proof
And now comes the part that gives OGM News its favourite ingredient: suspense. A video showing or discussing the alleged cash trail can certainly reignite public curiosity, but a video is not automatically proof that Trump received the money. The crucial question remains where the cash actually went after it was withdrawn — a question that investigators themselves were unable to definitively answer. The Washington Post reported that the money trail went cold before investigators could establish that the cash reached Trump.
Donald Trump’s representatives have denied the allegation, with Trump’s campaign previously saying that he had never received money from Egypt. The Justice Department investigation ultimately found no wrongdoing and was closed. That leaves the $10 million story in an unusual political limbo: serious enough to have triggered a federal investigation, but without publicly established evidence proving that Trump actually received the alleged Egyptian payment.
For Trump, the political irony is almost too convenient: an alleged $10 million cash withdrawal, a matching campaign contribution, Egyptian intelligence allegations and a secret investigation — yet the one thing investigators could not establish was the final destination of the money. As Donald J. Trump continues serving as the current president, the resurfacing of the story is likely to generate fresh questions about what happened in the final weeks of the 2016 campaign. OGM News will continue watching the cash trail, the video and any new evidence that may finally explain where those millions went.
