Tucker Carlson has become the latest target of President Donald J. Trump’s escalating attacks on former allies who have broken with his political agenda. In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump dismissed Carlson as a “loser,” questioned his intelligence and said the conservative commentator should be required to take a cognitive test if he seeks political office.
Trump also claimed that Carlson has “no chance” of winning an election but could potentially take votes away from the Republican nominee. Carlson has been the subject of speculation about a possible political future, although he has not formally announced a campaign for elected office.
A Former Trump Ally Turns Into a Target
The attack represents a remarkable deterioration in the relationship between Tucker Carlson and Trump. Carlson was once one of Trump’s most prominent conservative media supporters, but the two have increasingly clashed over foreign policy, particularly Trump’s approach to the Iran conflict.
Carlson has criticized U.S. involvement in the war and has argued that Trump’s foreign-policy decisions have betrayed the “America First” principles that helped bring many conservative voters into Trump’s political coalition. Trump, in turn, has increasingly portrayed Carlson and other dissenting conservatives as disloyal and politically irrelevant.
Trump’s latest post also targeted former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie, attacking the three conservatives after they appeared together and discussed a political movement opposed to further foreign wars.
Trump Says TUCKER CARLSON Could Hurt Republicans
Trump’s warning about Carlson’s potential political impact is notable even though Carlson has not officially entered a race. The president argued that while Carlson could not win, he might take “a couple of points” from the Republican ticket if he ran.
That concern reflects a broader struggle within the conservative movement over Trump’s foreign policy. Carlson, Greene and Massie have positioned themselves as critics of continued U.S. military involvement overseas, while Trump has defended his administration’s approach.
The feud has become increasingly personal, with Trump attacking Carlson’s intelligence and Carlson previously criticizing Trump’s rhetoric and military policy.
Trump ended his latest broadside with the phrase “PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!”, echoing language he has used previously in controversial posts involving Iran.
For now, there is no confirmed Carlson presidential campaign to derail.
But Trump’s message is unmistakable: if Tucker Carlson enters electoral politics, the president intends to make sure he faces a fight from his former ally before he even reaches the ballot.
