Country music legend Dolly Parton missed the opening celebration of Dollywood’s new NightFlight Expedition attraction after her doctor advised her not to travel because of ongoing health concerns. Instead of appearing in person, the 80-year-old star addressed guests through a prerecorded video from Nashville.
Parton explained that she had been experiencing dizziness and dehydration and said her doctor had effectively “clipped” her wings by telling her not to travel that week. Despite missing the milestone event, she reassured fans that things were going well medically and encouraged visitors to enjoy the new attraction.
Dolly Patron Doctor Says Stay Home
Parton had been expected to attend the dedication of NightFlight Expedition, which Dollywood describes as its largest attraction investment. The event finally went ahead without her, with the singer joining virtually instead.
In typical Dolly fashion, she managed to bring some humor to the situation. Rather than allowing her absence to overshadow the occasion, she explained that when a doctor says you are not traveling, “you ain’t traveling.” The country icon then promised fans, “I’ll see you down the road.”
Health Challenges Have Continued
The latest cancellation follows several health-related setbacks for Parton. Earlier this year, she said she was responding well to medication and treatment while taking time away from live performances. She has previously discussed problems involving her immune and digestive systems as well as kidney stones.
Parton also canceled her planned Las Vegas residency after previously postponing it because of health challenges. At the time, she emphasized that she was not retiring and wanted to slow down while she focused on getting better.
The Ride Opens Without Its Famous Co-Owner
NightFlight Expedition eventually opened at Dollywood after delays, giving visitors a new attraction combining different experiences, including coaster and water elements. Parton had been closely associated with promoting the attraction and had previously spoken enthusiastically about its arrival.
In the satirical world of theme parks, fictional roller coasters reportedly held an emergency meeting after discovering that their most famous co-owner was staying home. One imaginary ride allegedly declared, “Dolly can rest—we’ll do the spinning today.”
Dolly Remains Busy Despite Health Setbacks
Although Parton has scaled back some appearances, she has continued working on several projects. Recent reports say she remains involved with plans for her Songteller Hotel, a Nashville museum and her upcoming Broadway musical.
That continued activity makes her latest message particularly reassuring for fans. Parton may be taking things more slowly, but she has made clear that she remains involved in her creative and business projects while prioritizing her health.
Dolly Parton’s absence from the NightFlight Expedition opening is another reminder that the country icon is taking her ongoing health issues seriously. While she could not be at Dollywood in person, her prerecorded message allowed her to remain part of the celebration and reassure fans that she is continuing to recover. Her promise to “see you down the road” offered an optimistic ending to an otherwise disappointing absence.
