James Comer, House Oversight Committee Chairman is escalating his criticism of Dr. Anthony Fauci, arguing that Fauci’s personal pandemic-era diary could represent some of the strongest evidence yet in the congressional investigation into the former top U.S. infectious-disease official’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking Monday on Newsmax, James Comer said the diary was likely “the most damning evidence” that Fauci misled the public and concealed important information surrounding COVID-19’s origins.

Morens pleaded guilty to conspiring to conceal federal records relating to COVID-19 research funding, including communications concerning a controversial coronavirus research grant. Fauci himself has not been charged or implicated in Morens’ criminal case.
The broader question of COVID-19’s origins remains contested. A Republican-led congressional investigation concluded that a laboratory-associated incident was the most likely explanation, while other scientists and lawmakers have argued that the available evidence does not conclusively establish either a laboratory leak or natural spillover.
