Tech billionaire Elon Musk is stepping back into U.S. electoral politics, with his America PAC spending more than $800,000 across 15 competitive House and Senate races as Republicans battle to retain control of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections.
Federal Election Commission filings show that the August expenditures were directed entirely toward Republican candidates and their races, marking the first major disclosed wave of Musk-backed spending for the 2026 midterms.
Elon Musk Targets Key Senate Battlegrounds
The largest share went to the closely watched Texas Senate race, where Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton is facing Democrat James Talarico. America PAC spent roughly $248,000 supporting Paxton and opposing his Democratic rival.
Musk’s political operation also invested heavily in Maine, where approximately $170,000 went toward the Senate contest involving Republican Sen. Susan Collins. Other major spending included about $106,000 in Ohio, $91,000 in New Hampshire, and additional expenditures in Iowa, Michigan and Alaska.
House Republicans Also Receive Backing
Elon Musk’s PAC is not limiting its operation to Senate contests. It has also spent money supporting Republican House candidates in competitive districts across states including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida and Wisconsin.
Among the Republican lawmakers receiving support are Reps. Tom Kean Jr., Mike Lawler, Ryan Mackenzie, Rob Bresnahan, Scott Perry, Jen Kiggans and Derrick Van Orden. Much of the reported spending was categorized as printing, suggesting the money is being used for direct-mail and voter-contact operations.
Elon Musk’s Bigger Political War Chest
The roughly $800,000 disclosed so far could represent only the beginning of Musk’s involvement in the midterms. Reports indicate that he has authorized more than $100 million for Republican candidates during the 2026 election cycle.
Musk was already one of the biggest individual political spenders during the 2024 presidential election, when his political operation poured hundreds of millions of dollars into efforts supporting Donald Trump and other Republicans. His renewed involvement gives the GOP another major source of financial and organizational support heading into a potentially competitive election.
Democrats Attack Musk’s Influence
Democrats have sharply criticized Musk’s political spending, accusing the billionaire of attempting to use his enormous wealth to influence congressional elections.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has attacked Republican candidates benefiting from America PAC’s spending, while Musk’s political operation says it intends to work alongside President Donald Trump’s political team and the broader Republican Party to help Republicans retain control of Congress.
The Midterm Battle Begins
With Republicans defending narrow congressional majorities, every competitive Senate and House seat could become crucial to determining who controls Washington after the November elections.
Musk’s early spending therefore carries significance beyond the initial $800,000. If his America PAC follows through on plans to deploy more than $100 million, the billionaire could become one of the most influential financial players in the 2026 midterm campaign.
For Republicans, Musk’s money could strengthen vulnerable candidates and expand their campaign operations. For Democrats, however, his involvement provides another powerful political target as they seek to break the GOP’s grip on Congress.
OGM News will continue to monitor Elon Musk’s political spending and its impact on the 2026 U.S. midterm elections. The key point: $800,000 is the initial disclosed spending, not Musk’s total planned midterm investment—reports indicate his America PAC could spend more than $100 million this cycle.
