Jamie Foxx has revealed that his daughter, Corinne Foxx, played a crucial role in helping him survive his near-fatal medical emergency in 2023. The actor recently revisited the frightening experience during an appearance on Keke Palmer’s Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast, recalling how one of his doctors later told him, “Your daughter saved your life” and, even more strikingly, “She’s the reason that you’re here.”
Corinne Stepped Into Caretaker Mode
Foxx suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke in April 2023 while he was working in Atlanta. He has previously explained that he lost roughly 20 days of memory and had to undergo extensive rehabilitation after waking up unable to walk. The ordeal was so serious that Foxx has described it as a second chance at life.
According to Foxx, Corinne immediately stepped into “caretaking mode” and took charge while her father was receiving medical attention. She also had to deal with intense public speculation about his condition while protecting his privacy. Corinne later explained that she did not have time to be afraid because her focus was simply on taking care of her father.

Foxx said he eventually wanted to hear directly from the doctor about what happened during those terrifying days. The doctor’s answer apparently left him deeply emotional: without Corinne’s intervention and care, he might not have survived. Foxx compared his daughter’s determination to Michael Corleone protecting his father in The Godfather, describing that as the kind of energy Corinne displayed during the crisis.
The actor has also credited family, medical professionals, prayers and humor with helping him through the ordeal. During rehabilitation, comedy became one of his main coping mechanisms, while nurses reportedly regarded his recovery as remarkable. Foxx has since returned to work and continues to speak about the experience with a mixture of gratitude, humor and disbelief.
For Foxx, the stroke appears to have permanently changed the way he views life and family. His latest revelation transforms what was already a frightening health story into an emotional tribute to a daughter who stepped forward when her father needed her most.
