Trump Warns Iran of ‘Dire’ Consequences Over Houthi Attacks

President Donald Trump has issued a sharp warning to Iran, declaring that any further attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels will be considered direct acts of Iranian aggression and met with severe consequences. This comes after a series of U.S. airstrikes over the weekend that resulted in at least 53 Houthi fatalities, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump described the Houthis as “sinister mobsters and thugs” and vowed that any additional attacks would be met with “great force,” hinting that the U.S. response could extend beyond initial military actions. He accused Iran of arming, funding, and directing the Houthis, effectively making Tehran responsible for their actions.

The recent U.S. strikes targeted multiple Houthi facilities and leaders in response to threats that the group would resume attacks unless humanitarian aid was allowed into Gaza. The situation has raised concerns about a broader regional conflict as the U.S. seeks to deter further aggression while holding Iran accountable.

Houthis Escalate Attacks Amid U.S. Strikes

Following the U.S. military operation, the Houthis claimed responsibility for attacking the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea. However, U.S. defense officials have dismissed these claims, stating that no significant damage was inflicted on American forces. The Pentagon has accused the Houthis of spreading false information to exaggerate their capabilities and successes.

For the past two years, the Houthis have targeted commercial and military shipping in the Red Sea, disrupting a key global trade route. The recent ceasefire in Gaza had temporarily reduced these attacks, but tensions have reignited with the latest U.S. airstrikes.

The United Nations has called for restraint, warning that further escalation could have devastating consequences for the region. However, the Trump administration has made it clear that it will not hesitate to use military force if the Houthis continue their hostilities.

Iran Denounces Trump’s Threats, Warns of Retaliation

Iran has strongly criticized President Trump’s rhetoric, calling it “reckless” and warning that any hostile actions against the country will be met with retaliation. Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, stated in a letter to the U.N. Security Council that Tehran will “defend its sovereignty and national interests under international law.”

The Iranian government has also sought to distance itself from the Houthi attacks, claiming that the Yemeni rebels act independently. However, the U.S. insists that Iran is the primary backer of the group, supplying weapons, intelligence, and financial support.

Trump’s threats come amid renewed tensions over Iran’s nuclear program. The president recently sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urging negotiations and warning of potential military action if a new nuclear deal is not reached. With diplomatic efforts stalling, the risk of a larger U.S.-Iran confrontation appears to be growing.

U.S. Expands Military Authority to Combat Houthi Threat

In a shift from previous policies, President Trump has granted the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) the authority to launch offensive strikes against the Houthis without requiring White House approval. This decision allows American forces to act swiftly against emerging threats in the region.

Lt. Gen. Alex Grynkewich, director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated that this move enables the U.S. to maintain a “tempo of operations” necessary to pressure the Houthis and deter further attacks. He added that the U.S. military now has the flexibility to target a wider range of enemy assets, including drone and missile launch sites.

The Pentagon has maintained that there is no evidence of civilian casualties from the latest airstrikes, although Houthi officials have claimed that women and children were among the dead. The conflicting reports highlight the ongoing challenge of verifying information in the midst of an escalating conflict.

Humanitarian Concerns Grow as Conflict Escalates

As the violence intensifies, humanitarian organizations have raised concerns about the worsening conditions in Yemen. The Houthis recently raided a World Food Program (WFP) warehouse in Saada province, seizing food supplies intended for vulnerable civilians. The U.N. condemned the action, emphasizing that only authorized partners should distribute aid to ensure it reaches those in need.

Yemen has been on the brink of famine for years, with the war between the Saudi-backed government and the Houthi rebels exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. The United Nations has urged all parties to de-escalate tensions and focus on alleviating the suffering of civilians.

Despite these appeals, the conflict shows no signs of abating. With Trump’s warning to Iran and the Houthis vowing revenge, the situation remains highly volatile. The coming days will be critical in determining whether diplomacy can prevail or if the region will plunge deeper into violence.
