Popular Twitch streamer Emiru has alleged she was assaulted during a fan meet-and-greet session at TwitchCon in San Diego, leading to widespread concern about event security at one of the world’s largest gaming conventions.
According to circulating videos on social media, the incident occurred when a tall man approached Emiru, grabbed her, and pulled her face close to his. A member of Emiru’s personal security team immediately intervened, pushing the man away before escorting him out of the area. Witnesses described the situation as alarming, with attendees rushing to check on the visibly shaken streamer.
The event, meant to connect Twitch creators and their fans, quickly turned into a point of scrutiny for the platform. Twitch organizers released a statement calling the man’s actions “completely unacceptable and deeply upsetting,” and stated that both security and law enforcement were promptly alerted.
Twitch Promises Action, but Streamer Emiru Rejects Their Response
In its official response, Twitch claimed that the man responsible was immediately detained and has since been banned from all future Twitch events as well as the platform itself. The company also pledged to increase security at remaining convention activities, emphasizing its commitment to protecting creators and attendees.
However, Streamer Emiru strongly disputed Twitch’s account, calling their version of events “a blatant lie.” She alleged that the man was allowed to “walk away” from the meet-and-greet area and that Twitch staff on-site did not treat the incident with the urgency it required.
“He crossed multiple barriers at TwitchCon and even walked past another creator’s meet-and-greet to grab me and my face and try to kiss me,” she wrote in a statement. “They said he was detained immediately, but I didn’t hear anything until hours later — and only after my manager pushed for it.”
The streamer further expressed her disappointment, suggesting that the company’s response was reactive rather than preventive, and that it failed to prioritize creator safety in an environment meant to celebrate community engagement.
Calls for Accountability and Safety Reform
Following the incident, Streamer Emiru announced that she would no longer attend future TwitchCon events, citing a lack of confidence in the platform’s ability to protect its creators. She also urged other streamers to reconsider their participation until Twitch implements more robust safety protocols.
The allegations have sparked debates across social media, with fans and fellow creators demanding transparency and a review of Twitch’s event management and security measures. Many noted that high-profile streamers often attract large crowds, and therefore, require specialized safety planning to prevent similar breaches.
